Blog: Active chilled beams with variable k-factor

Good air quality is essential to be able to deliver a healthy and comfortable indoor climate. However, a good indoor climate is also reliant on a pleasant temperature, and any draughts should be avoided.

One way to come to terms with the above, is to decouple the control of air quality and thermal comfort, the ventilation system can be accompanied by a hydronic system for heating and cooling - the two are working side by side.

However, with the latest advancements of active chilled beams, a hybrid solution of air and water working together has entered the market. By adding clever control systems to such a solution, it is possible to capture the essential benefits of both air and water, free cooling and large cooling/heating capacities.
