Blog: Recycled steel lowers the carbon footprint
The focal point of our sustainability work, as for many other companies and governmental bodies, has so far been to find ways to reduce the operational carbon footprint of our business. However, we recognise a need and maturity to also address embodied carbon and has started our journey with recycled steel.
With EPDs as a sound foundation for mapping embodied carbon in our Swegon GOLD air handling units, we found clear opportunities in regards to the steel used for the units' casings. Improvments are made by the means of using steel with a significant ratio of recycled materials, and further advancements are made in regards to embodied carbon as the steel is produced using 100 percent renewable energy.
