Supplying air
Supply air is used for different purposes. Its main task is to replace polluted air with fresh air which may be heated or cooled. Polluted air denotes air containing contaminants in the form of gases and particles. In some contexts, excess heat is also regarded as a ‘contaminant’.
When the polluted air is extracted, new air must be supplied. This may be done in many different ways to achieve an optimal indoor climate which is quiet, draught-free and maintains high air quality.
Ventilation principles
A distinction is made between two main principles for building ventilation, mixing ventilation and thermally controlled ventilation. The latter is also called displacement ventilation.
