Blog: Cooling coil sizing
Carefully selected cooling coils result in appropriately sized chillers, and, in turn, a far more relevant investment cost compared to what oversized cooling coils and chillers lead to. In this blog post, William Lawrance, Senior Product Manager Special Projects, explains this in detail by using a practical example and Mollier diagrams.
When designing an AHU with a cooling coil, the selected temperature and humidity levels are normally slightly lower than the maximum values. There are different methodologies for making this selection, but what is essential is that the temperature and humidity should be considered together, as related conditions.
This blog post explains the unfavourlable consequence of selecting temperature and humidity independently at their respective maximums, a method that can result in up to three times the required cooling capacity.
