Celebrating 200 Years of The National Gallery
As a celebration for their 200th anniversary, The National Gallery commissioned the building of a new entrance way to the prestigious Sainsbury Wing.
With the assistance of FLOWBAR by Swegon, they were able to create a sleek and stylish look, where cumbersome air vents did not disrupt the flow of the view, or the air it circulated.

Design Without Compromise
Creating the right indoor climate was essential for a building of this cultural importance. The upgraded environment supports both the comfort of visitors and the protection of priceless artworks. While the focus of the project was on architectural and spatial transformation, the integration of modern building services was critical to delivering a high-performing solution.
FLOWBAR is designed to fit seemlessly into high-end projects, negating the need for unsightly alternatives.

A key challenge in this project was to improve circulation and daylighting without compromising the integrity of the original architecture. The transformation had to focus on enhancing the entrance sequence and interior spaces while respecting the historic character of the building. By incorporating FLOWBAR the result is a space that feels both calm and contemporary, an elegant response to the needs of a modern museum without losing sight of the past.
Preserving heritage through innovation
By blending heritage sensitivity with functional improvements, the reimagined Sainsbury Wing strikes a balance between architectural legacy and modern-day design. It sets a new standard for how historic buildings can evolve to meet the expectations of today’s public, while remaining true to their identity.
Together, we investigated the details of the project’s indoor climate design and were able to navigate challenges, working to create an ambient space for the facility's local community and beyond.
