Cyber secure demand control

A modern military facility in northern Europe faced the challenge of improving energy efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of operational reliability and cybersecurity.
With occupancy varying significantly between offices, meeting rooms and training areas, demand-controlled ventilation offered considerable potential for energy savings. However, the facility's strict security requirements meant that all building management systems had to be carefully protected against cyber threats and unauthorised access.
Swegon's WISE indoor climate system was selected to provide intelligent demand control with secure system architecture.
WISE automatically adjusts the indoor climate according to actual occupancy and demand, reducing unnecessary energy consumption while ensuring optimal comfort for personnel.
To address the facility's cybersecurity requirements, WISE's encrypted wireless communication using AES 128-bit encryption was combined with a segregated building automation network and restricted system access. This enabled intelligent indoor climate management within the facility's controlled IT environment.

Custom finish for camouflage

A military base in Europe wanted to ensure that its technical installations blended seamlessly into the surrounding with minimised visual impact.
Conventional HVAC installation with outdoor ventilation units would risk standing out against the carefully designed building exteriors. The facility needed a technical solution that would deliver reliable performance without compromising its camouflage requirements.
Swegon provided a customised HVAC solution with specially selected surface finishes to meet the special military requirements.
Delivery included GOLD air handling units and BlueBox heat pumps for ten different buildings at a military base. All units placed outdoors were painted in a fully matte finish, so that there will be no reflections that could distract pilots from the air. That is also why all stickers are placed on the inside of the doors. This allowed the technical installations to maintain a discreet appearance without compromising ventilation performance or indoor comfort.
The result is a robust, reliable and energy-efficient indoor climate solution that integrates seamlessly into the military environment, combining technical performance with the facility's strict visual requirements.
Precise airflow for a shooting range

A recently build indoor military shooting range faced a unique ventilation challenge. While effective ventilation was essential for removing airborne contaminants (e.g. lead, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides) and maintaining a healthy indoor environment, uncontrolled air currents could also influence bullet trajectories and compromise shooting accuracy.
The facility needed a solution that would provide sufficient fresh air without creating disturbing cross-draughts or turbulence in the shooting lanes.
Swegon's air distribution expertise provided a tailrored diffuser solution to meet the strickt requirements. By carefully selecting and positioning Swegon air diffusers, the ventilation was designed to deliver uniform, controlled airflow while minimising unwanted air movements across the shooting lanes.
The optimised air diffusion helped maintain stable and uniform airflow with controlled velocity conditions for precision shooting while directing airborne contaminants away from personnel towards the extraction system.
