Indoor climate to Denmark's tallest residential building
This was a unique project at the time, we presented our VITA HCV 400 PRO P2 unit to meet the set requirements. This unit was complemented by VITA HCC 360 P2 and VITA RCV 320.
Background
Denmark’s tallest residential building, the Lighthouse, was built between 2019 and 2022. It required an indoor climate solution that had the possibility of meeting the strict regulations and requirements for energy efficiency, emissions and indoor air quality.
Lighthouse is built with approx. 400 apartments and covers almost 45 000 square meters. An interesting fact is that the building has more than 2 500 interior doors and 46% of its façade consists of glass. These parameters played an important role in determining the most suitable indoor climate solution.
The main focus of the solution
This was a unique project at the time which had a range of precise specifications that were not perfectly aligning with standard ventilation products. For instance, there was a space-savings requirement that placed direct limitations to the size of air handling units. Humidity control was another key consideration. Not only because humidity impact on indoor comfort and the longevity of a building, but also because it has a significant impact on the operational efficiency of an indoor climate solution.
Last but not least, fire safety requirements had to be addressed in relation to the planned decentralised indoor climate solution to prevent the spread of fire and smoke in the case of such emergency.

What we offered
One way forward to save space is to use air handling units that allow air supply both at the top and the bottom of the unit. We presented our HCV 400 PRO P2 unit which manages this and can fit into a 60x60 cm cabinet. Despite its small size, it can deliver a 240 m3/h airflow and is equipped with heat exchangers that recover 97% of the heat energy.
We also recommended to deliver the units with built in humidity sensors that automatically detect changes in humidity levels and adjust airflow accordingly. Further, we suggested to include our fire protection controllers (FPC) which automatically close fire and smoke dampers when a fire is detected.
A good partnership lead the way
Thanks to a close cooperation and strong partnership from the early stages of the project, we were selected to supply the presented HCV 400 PRO units. However, because some of the apartments in Lighthouse are as small as 52 sqm, some units were exchanged for our real compact alternatives, HCC 360P2 and RCV 320. Both units can be wall or ceiling mounted.
