A typical Berlin courtyard building
This building cluster built in a typical Berlin courtyard structure is located in the inner-city of the German capital. It features a total floor area of approximately 18 000 m2 and was originally a commercial and industrial courtyard complex. It’s history is more than a hundred years old and the different buildings have been renovated and remodelled quite a few times since then.
This project was concentrated to a smaller area on the second floor, just 250 m2.
A showroom with a tight time schedule
The 250 m2 space, called Sample Floor, was about to be transformed into a modern office space that was also to serve as a reference for future tenant fit-outs. The aim was to create an open-plan office environment where the indoor climate technology would be visibly integrated and contribute to the interior design concept.
As the space was about to serve as a showroom, all visible components needed to be perfectly coordinated and the project requirements therefore placed clear focus on both technical performance and visual quality. An additional challenge was the tight time schedule, which put high demands on coordination and logistics.
A climate ceiling solution with integrated lighting
The general contractor, Drees & Sommer, selected the A11-S climate ceiling solution with integrated lighting, supplied by Durlum. The decisive factor was the comprehensive package of precisely installed stainless-steel piping for the visible areas and the large-format ceiling sails. This was supported by a well-planned execution process covering everything from planning to installation.

More about the solution
The ceiling sails, measuring 3000 x 1200 mm, were manufactured with integrated light strips and installed to ensure minimal sag, despite their size and the integrated technology. At the same time, the solution met the acoustic requirements without compromising the visual expression. All pipe-work from the shaft was installed visibly, with a high level of precision for a perfect end result.
After just three months: a climate ceiling showroom
Seamless coordination between all trades throughout this project, required fast and reliable support in planning, ordering and installation. After just three months, the result is an office environment that demonstrates the applicability and flexibility modern climate ceiling solutions offer. This project’s combination of thermal comfort, integrated lighting and visible installations creates a coherent design approach and provides an attractive reference for future tenant fit-outs.
