London High-Rise Residential Upgrade for Actionair by Swegon
A total of 132 units were supplied.
As part of a major high-rise residential upgrade in London, Actionair by Swegon was appointed to supply a significant number of Vengen28 NSHEV glazed smoke ventilators.
The ventilators were installed within communal landings on each floor, forming an essential part of the buildings’ fire escape and smoke ventilation strategy. A total of 132 units were supplied, with deliveries carefully phased in line with the contractor’s floor-by-floor installation programme.
Swegon engineers were available throughout the project to provide guidance and technical support during installation and commissioning when required.
The Challenge
The project required a compliant natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilation (NSHEV) solution that would integrate seamlessly within a specified glazing system, while also meeting bespoke aesthetic requirements.
The client specification called for dual-finish thermally broken frames, incorporating:
-
Pan 34 bronze anodised finish externally
-
RAL 9016 powder-coated finish internally
Achieving this finish required careful sequencing, with each section completed prior to rolling to ensure the desired visual quality and performance standards were met.
In addition to aesthetic considerations, installation methodology was treated as a critical factor. Although EN12101-2:2003 does not stipulate a specific installation method for NSHEV units, Swegon recognises that correct integration within the façade system is essential to ensure reliable operation in emergency situations.
The solution
The Vengen28 NSHEV glazed smoke ventilator was selected for its proven performance, compliance and ability to accommodate bespoke requirements.
The units were designed to be fitted within a Schueco glazing system. To provide additional reassurance regarding performance, Swegon tested the ventilator within the specific glazing configuration selected for the project, taking into account the principles of the later version of EN12101-2.
The unit successfully passed testing within this system, demonstrating reliable operation under realistic conditions and reinforcing confidence in its performance as part of the life safety strategy.
The result
The completed installation delivers a compliant and aesthetically integrated smoke ventilation solution, supporting the buildings’ fire strategy while meeting detailed architectural requirements.
The project demonstrates:
-
Reliable NSHEV performance integrated within a façade glazing system
-
Bespoke manufacturing capability to meet dual-finish specifications
-
Phased delivery aligned with construction sequencing
-
Ongoing technical support throughout installation
Life safety remains paramount to Swegon, and this project reflects our commitment to delivering tested, compliant solutions that perform when required.
