System selection guide

Each project is unique and a great many factors determine the ideal ventilation system for a residential bulding. However, the choice will essentially be based on three factors: comfort requirements, energy requirements and initial cost.

Key factors when selecting a ventilation solution

Before choosing a system, consider the following:

1.Building size & layout

Size and layout of the building has a major influence on which system is the most economically feasible to build.

  • How many apartments?
  • How many storeys?
  • Are air shafts feasible?
  • Is there space for central units / for apartment-specific units?

2. Local regulations and standards

Ventilation requirements vary between countries, but typically specify:

  • Minimum supply air volume per person
  • Minimum extract rates for kitchens/bathrooms
  • Pressure balance guidelines
