Intelligent DX temperature control

This system is utilised for optimised temperature control of GOLD and EPSILON Sky solutions. It manages multiple heat pumps seamlessly and provides intelligent airflow management.

Main functionality

This intelligent functionality for EPSILON Sky and GOLD air handling units regulates the supply air temperature for the AHU. It ensures that cooling/heating is provided from one or two EPSILON Sky reversable heat pumps. The easy connection is key, only one Modbus cable is required between the units.

Added value

Control, on/off of operation and alarms are integrated in the GOLD unit’s IQ-logic and IQ-navigator. The solution ensures a minimum airflow and utilises the rotary heat exchanger to compensate for frost or oil. This, together with the use of an R32 refrigerant, reduces the solution’s environmental footprint.

Further, using multiple heat pumps support compliance with EN-378-1 standards, sequential defrosting and phased starts-ups, the latter for efficient performance.

Description

The flow chart shows the schematics of the intelligent DX temperature control. A couple of things to consider:

  • The GOLD unit controls one or two EPSILON Sky operating in sequence, this to remain the required supply air temperature.
  • A neutral zone, a non-operating span, can be set for the solution.
  • Adjustments can be based on different temperatures: room, extract air or outdoor air in relation to extract air.
  • If more than one EPSILON Sky is connected to the air handling unit, sectional de-frosting and prioritised start is available.
  • All operating units utilise the same power source (parallel).
  • When designing a reversible heat pump solution, it is recommended to utilise two EPSILON Sky achieve a lower minimum airflow during defrost.

Technical details

  • When using this intelligent functionality, the GOLD unit automatically activate the additional priority sequence.
  • The air handling unit controls the heat pump, either to ensure that the temperature of the supply air, room air or extract air is kept at setpoint. The non-operating zone is used to set starting points for cooling and heating.
  • Additional functions to alter the supply air temperature setpoint: extract air compensation, outdoor air in relation to extract air compensation and/or summer night cooling.
  • The minimum airflow demand must be respected when the intelligent DX temperature control is used in combination with a VAV/DCV system.
