Summer night cooling

Use cool night air to pre-cool your building overnight - cutting energy use, lowering costs and improving comfort.

Why should you activate it?

On warm days, does your building start already warm or is your air conditioning running at full speed in the mornings? On hot days, buildings absorb and store heat in its structure, resulting in high cooling demand and increased energy costs.

With summer night cooling, you utilize the free, lower temperature at night to cool down the building structure when electricity might be cheaper. This reduces the cooling load during the first hours of the day. If a cooling unit is installed, it will not need to be operated, thus offering savings. If no cooling unit is installed, a certain cooling effect will still be achieved.

What are the benefits?

Activating this function brings several important advantages for your building, your tenants, and your operating costs.

Key benefits include:
•    Lower energy costs: Reduces the cooling load during the early hours of the day.
•    Improved comfort: The building tenants arrive in the morning at a pleasant temperature, avoiding having to face heat buildup from the previous day.
•    Extended equipment life: Less strain on chillers and other connected parts.

This function suits buildings with changing occupancy and big temperature swings — like offices, schools, hotels and shops. It is especially useful if the building structure is heavy, as these retain coolness longer to be released during the day. The summer night cooling function will help keep the indoor climate stable and reduce cooling needs.

How does it work?

All year comfort is managed via the IQlogic control system, but requires a special control equipment box (accessory). The function also requires an extract air humidity sensor for dew-point regulation.

Here’s how it works:
•    Sensors measure supply water temperature, outdoor temperature and (optionally) room temperature and humidity.
•    The system automatically adjusts water temperature and keeps it constant at the required setting in the connected cooling and heating systems respectively.
•    Special features, like night compensation for activation if premises remain unused during weekends and dew point control that help prevent condensation are included.

The control logic also manages pumps, valves, and airflow for safe and efficient operation. You can activate and set the function via the GOLD user interface IQnavigator.
