RECOfrost

Units with a counterflow heat exchanger, GOLD PX units, are equipped with this adaptive, patented anti-frost protection, as there is a risk of frost formation in cold weather, and when the extract air is humid.

Anti-frost protection

Cold weather and humid extract air pose a risk of frost formation in the heat exchanger. To prevent this, Swegon’s GOLD PX includes our patented defrosting control RECOfrost. RECOfrost adjusts the pressure drop across the heat exchanger in periods when full recovery is not needed, e.g. in spring and autumn. The result is excellent temperature efficiency and energy balance, in any climate.

Main functionality

So, how does it work exactly? RECOfrost is a unique combination of adaptive section defrosting and bypass regulation. This demand-controlled adaptive method defrosts exactly when and as much as needed, which saves up to 30% in cold climates.

The defrosting cycle is adjusted based on the prevailing conditions and dampers regulate which part of the heat exchanger is being defrosted. Spring/autumn optimisation makes sure that the dampers open at times of the year when full recovery is not required, which results in energy savings.

The Swegon RECOfrost function was the winner of the BeBo “Bättre Bostads-FTX” technology competition 2024, funded by the Swedish Energy Agency.

Added Value

  • Optimal energy efficiency in the heat exchanger
  • Less reheating required
  • Improved indoor climate
  • Energy saving during spring/autumn
