Smart buildings

At Swegon we look forward to and strive for “smart” to be the new normal and that it is obvious that a building can utilise the advantages that new technology brings. In other words – all buildings should be smart buildings. In this guide we introduce some of the benefits of this development.

What is a smart building?

We are currently in a paradigmatic shift often referred to as “the fourth industrial revolution”, where connected buildings are more the standard than the exception.

The smart buildings need to meet future demands on energy and comfort consumption. However, it’s not just society that makes demands, even those who reside in the buildings have become more sustainability aware.

Our definition of the concept is that there are a number of functions in a smart building employed to simplify and improve the use of the building. By using sensors, detectors and other technical equipment to collect data from these smart functions in the building, you can optimise a number of systems and services and thus make savings both fininacial and for the environment.

All new buildings should be smart; otherwise it would be foolish.

Smart buildings give smart people

As we spend about 90% of our lives indoors, the indoor climate is extremely important for our well-being, and it is also strongly linked to human performance.

Big data

In the smart building, there are usually a number of systems installed that continuously collect a great deal of valuable data about how your property is used.

If the various systems in the building can collaborate, you can gain even more benefits. With an API (Application Programming Interface), the opportunity is given to effortlessly retrieve data from the building’s various systems.

The use of data in the building can reach new levels with the help of a digital twin, i.e. a copy of the physical building in a computer environment. The digital twin receives data from the building with the help of sensor technology to monitor operations and plan maintenance and should any of the conditions change, the effects can be seen immediately.

Possibilities of Big data

Smart as in climate smart

As smart buildings and their smart functions give full control of the indoor climate’s parameters, it forms an excellent basis for building projects to strive for good results in certification programs for the environment and well-being.
